Idea - Road Trip Blogathon

Last night I was trying to get to bed at a decent hour so I could get up early this morning for some gym time. I was successful in my 6 a.m. wake-up call, but I was not able to get to bed before my goal of midnight.

I came very close. I had just ended a second episode of The West Wing (I'm on the fourth season for anyone keeping track) and was ready to wind down and head to bed at just around 11:30 p.m.

But as I turned down the lights and closed my eyes, my mind kept running. It might have been the second cup of coffee I had at the cafe earlier that evening, but I couldn't stop thinking about this little idea that's been jogging in the back of my mind for some time now.

Yes. Road Trip Blogathon.

In a follow-up to the epic 24-Hour Blogathon and the celebratory Birthday Blogathon, I've been looking to really kick the next blogathon into high gear.

So last night, I ripped out a large sheet of blank paper and started doodling and scribbling and writing down all sorts of ideas for what a Follow Eric Road Trip Blogathon might look like.

There aren't really any rules for this sort of thing, just like there was no precedent to dictate how a 24-Hour Blogathon should go. But that's precisely the fun of a blogathon.

So I let my mind run rampant for a little while last night and came up with a number of ideas to make the next blogathon the best yet.

Want a glimpse into some of the ideas that last night's brainstorm produced? Here's an overview and just some of the possibilities. Just keep in mind that this is still a work-in-progress and everything is subject to change.

Road trip. Summer's the perfect time to gas up and hit the road for an old-fashioned road trip. Every blogathon has a theme and for this one we'll be traveling along Highway 81 from Enid to Oklahoma City with plenty of planned and unplanned stops along the way.

Cafe-hopping. It wouldn't be a Follow Eric blogathon without coffee. There are quite a few cafes between here and there and some more that we'll hit up once we're in OKC.

Blogging. Of course there will be blogging. It's called a blogathon. Just like before, you'll be able to follow along through the blog, Facebook and Twitter as well as live video via Ustream. I'll also be opening it up again for other bloggers to write about a common topic - I'm thinking something like "favorite road trip memory."

Trivia and giveaways. I'm working on some contests and giveaways again. I'll try to make it a little simpler this time around. I'm thinking some picture clues and trivia from the road and things like that.

Music. I don't think we'll be putting on a live show again or anything like that but I will definitely have my guitar with me and I'm planning a stop at Oklahoma Vintage Guitar in El Reno. We'll also need an epic road trip soundtrack so I'm open to hearing your music suggestions.

So I hope you're starting to get some idea of what I'm hoping for with this next blogathon. We're probably less than a month away if scheduling permits so look for more information coming up soon. Use the Following Follow Eric page to be sure you're getting the latest information.

Any thoughts? I'm open to suggestions at this stage in the game. Anywhere you would suggest checking out along Highway 81 or in the city? Let me know!

That's a good idea! I like the idea of you guys traveling down 81 and checking out the local places that not everyone knows about on your way.
