Turpin Tunes at the Gaslight Theatre

Here's the deal: If you live in Enid and haven't been going to Turpin Tunes then you are missing out!

I'm going to bet you've never even heard of Turpin Tunes or Third Thursday. It's just a guess but previous experience would tell me that most Enidites aren't clued in on some of the coolest cultural events happening right here in town. These are probably some of the same people who sit around complaining that there's nothing to do in Enid.

So what is Turpin Tunes? It's simply an open mic style night of acoustic music from local musicians that happens every Third Thursday of the month at the Gaslight Theatre.

I wish I could adequately capture the awesome ambience of the night. Intimate, personal and relaxed are some of the most common descriptors but you really have to try it out for yourself.

And honestly, more and more people are catching on. The most recent event on October 20th was the best attended night I've witnessed. I even spent portions of the night sitting out in the lobby to allow more room for others while I cooled off a bit from the increased body heat inside the little Turpin Theatre.

I would say the event should be moved to a bigger venue to allow for larger crowds but that would take away from the intimate ambience that makes this event unique. So for now, I still encourage people in Enid to come out downtown for a great night of excellent local musicians sharing their acoustic crafts.

Here's a video that doesn't even do justice to the experience of being there in person but I hope this glimpse encourages more people to go in the future.

I hope to see some of you at the next event!

Who knows, maybe I'll even play a little guitar of my own...
