Life Lately - Cinema, Shoes, Driving, Tacos

Man, it's been a good week so far. And the weekend is just starting! Here's what's been going on...

Cinema Mexicana. Thursday night I had a chance to check out a Mexican film at the National Hispanic Cultural Center courtesy of Instituto Cervantes. They occasionally share Spanish films as a way of sharing Spanish and Mexican culture. It's also a great way to brush up your Spanish-speaking skills. Oh, and the films are free and housed in the very luxe Bank of America Theater.

Shoe drive prep. I've also been pretty preoccupied with final preparations before kicking off the shoe drive this summer. I'll have bins to collect shoes for Soles4Souls set up at some local community centers and I'll be talking to the kids about the importance of giving shoes. I also secured some bowling and skating passes to give out as prizes for kids who participate to keep things fun. I'm really looking forward to it. Keep me and the kids in your thoughts over the next three weeks while we collect shoes.

Driving aimlessly. Even with all this activity, I still found time to do something a little out of the ordinary; I got in my car and just drove around. It was more than a little liberating to set aside my scheduling and planning and just drive around. I ended up pretty far north, especially considering I avoided the freeways and stuck to the smaller backroads. I ended up at a new burger place I had never heard of. I don't know that I'd head back to Burger Rush anytime soon but it was a nice break from my routine.

Live music, art, and street tacos. To top off this week so far, I met up with friends to enjoy some live music and art at Bocadillos. Outside the cafe, they had a guy painting on canvas in front of a crowd while inside their was a guitarist entertaining even more people. It was a pretty good turnout and it was nice to see so many people in the South Valley enjoying the arts. Plus, Bocadillos was serving up some killer street tacos. Does it get any better than that?

Altogether, it's been a great week. I'm hoping for an even greater weekend. Then, come Monday, it'll be time to get to work on the shoe drive. I'll be addressing the first community center early that morning! Nervous and excited. I'll let you all know how it goes.
