This morning I had a chance to do something I've never done before. I had the opportunity to visit a community center and talk to the kids there about donating shoes to Soles4Souls.
Like any new experience, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect but I was glad to see the kids were engaged while I shared with them some facts about the need for shoes around the world.
Here are some of the things they learned:
- Over 300 million kids in the world don't have shoes.
- Kids without shoes are at risk for getting cuts, scrapes, and infectious diseases.
- Some kids are not allowed to attend school without shoes.
The biggest lesson I wanted to get across was that they can do something about it. Over the next three weeks, community centers here in the South Valley of Albuquerque will be collecting shoes to donate to Soles4Souls. They learned that their old shoes can be collected and sent to those 300 million kids around the world who don't have a pair of their own.
So I'd like the thank the kids of Los Padillas Community Center for their attention this morning. I'll be at Westside and Mountain View later this week!
