Around ABQ - ABQ Zine Fest Spelling Bee

a·be·ce·dar·i·an

  [ey-bee-see-dair-ee-uhn]
noun
1.
a person who is learning the letters of the alphabet.
2.
a beginner in any field of learning.

That's how I won the 2nd Annual ABQ Zine Fest Spelling Bee. By correctly spelling abecedarian.

It was one of the more colorful ways to spend an evening at Winning Coffee.

ABQ Zine Fest coordinator, Marya, played gracious host for the evening. Marisa, editor-in-chief down at the Alibi, started off the Spelling Bee by serving up a round of softballs before we got into the tougher rounds. After a few rounds, there were just two of us left to slug it out for first place.

I am proud to say that I emerged victorious, laying claim to the honor of first place and the spoils with it.

Those spoils included a packet of various zines as well as a gift certificate for Mint Tulip Vegan Cafe. I'm especially excited about the certificate because that means I'll get to try out a new local cafe for the first time.

Again, not a bad way to spend the evening.

Make sure you connect with these local businesses and organizations -- starting with ABQ Zine Fest as we approach their big event coming up on Saturday, October 6th at The Kosmos.
