Sweet Tooth - Rebel Donut
There are four snack foods that I am incapable of refusing: nachos, pizza, popcorn... and donuts.
So when I heard about a new donut shop in town, I couldn't say no to paying them a visit.
Rebel Donut lives up to both name and reputation. Most of what I had heard about them was that they were more adventurous than your average, dime-a-dozen donut shop and that they had an extensive and creative donut menu.
Their menu changes day-to-day so the selection pictured here might be entirely different when you show up. But that's just part of the fun.
With donuts dipped in cereal or dressed up for Halloween or topped with bacon, it's easy to see that there are some seriously creative minds dreaming up each batch in the kitchen.
When I went, I tried out the Barney Rebel (dipped in Fruity Pebbles cereal) and a Chocolate Chile Bacon (topped with bacon and chile powder). I was being a little too eager and, judging by their size, I considered picking out a third. As it turns out, even one of these little bad boys is plenty. They're dense and cake-like and will send your blood sugar spiking higher than Felix Baumgartner's space jump. If you want to try out a variety without downing a half dozen by yourself, I'd suggest taking along a friend or five and splitting up bites to try each one. I also recommend coffee. Not just because it's good for washing everything down but also because they've got a pretty decent coffee bar going.
I personally recommend going with anything topped with cereal. The perfect day for that is Cereal Saturday when they offer a whole selection of cereal-topped treats.
