Last night, Inhabitants of Burque and Yelp pulled together a little food truck battle between Dia De Los TaKos and Gauchito Catering. The showdown took place at Marble Brewery.
The event gave me a chance to try two trucks whose food I had not yet tasted.
At the Dia De Los TaKos truck, I ordered up a trio of tacos. One had green chile in it, another had fish, and the last one had deep-fried avocado--something I had never seen in a taco before.
As it would turn out, the avocado was my favorite. There's something about the fried crispy batter and the soft flesh of the avocado that just worked under all the tasty toppings and delicious sauce. The fish taco was also standout and the green chile had a good little kick to it that balanced well with the sauce.
From Gauchito's truck, I ordered up a beef empanada. The empanada was a little different than the ones my grandma used to make. These ones are flakier and offered with a traditional Argentinean sauce. I heartily recommend using the sauce. It adds a ton of good flavor to these stuffed pastries.
I won't tell you which was my favorite or who won the battle. Instead, I encourage you to go and try them both out and decide for yourselves. Follow them on Facebook to see where they'll be next.
